How to start planning your eco wedding
Planning an eco-wedding will require you to think about everything from invites to wedding favours.
One of the easiest ways to reduce waste is by sending your invitations electronically wherever possible. Not only will e-invites avoid using up paper and ink, they can be useful by inserting your wedding date directly into the calendars of busy people. However, many are not online, in which case consider hiring local artists to design your invitation. This way you can support your community and reduce emissions by avoiding delivery from overseas. Some invitations can even contain seeds so your invitees can enhance the environment once the wedding is over!
Wedding attire
It’s also worth considering where your wedding attire comes from. Whilst many brides must have a brand-new wedding dress, many others enjoy vintage dresses. These could be from family members or found in shops, but they will all have a history to them to which you can add your own story.

Decorating Ness Walk is an area we would be delighted to help you with. When it comes to staying sustainable, consider using local flowers and florists. Any candles can be made from local beeswax, and there are plenty of confetti alternatives such as bubbles, herbs or dried lavender flowers.
When it comes to wedding favours, there are so many eco-friendly options to choose from. Consider eco-friendly products such as locally-produced soaps, chocolate and seed packets. Or, you could forgo favours and instead put the money towards a local environmental charity, or have trees planted in your name.

And finally, do consider your and your guests’ travel arrangements. Rather than everyone arriving in separate cars, how about organising a tour bus from a central location? This way everyone can get to reacquaint themselves, and even take in some of the sights of Inverness and Loch Ness on the way. However, if cars arrive we have space for secure parking at £20 per car per day. We also have electrical chargers available for guests to use.

We have partnered with Green Tourism, a globally recognised certification programme. By doing so, we aim to achieve best practices in this area such as reducing our carbon footprint. Key to this is ‘treading lightly’ on the environment, and you can read about how we aim to minimise our environmental disturbance here. Some of the ways we do this is by:
- Sourcing ingredients locally for our in-house five-star restaurant, Torrish. From fresh herbs from our own kitchen garden to seafood caught that day, we aim to offer our guests the best that Scotland has to offer.
- Using 146 solar panels and energy-efficient lighting throughout the hotel.
- Using only glass in our bar by removing single-use plastics.
- Working with small brands who share our desire for a better tomorrow. These include Arran Aromatics who supply our in-room toiletries.
- Supporting the local community, from partnering with local suppliers to helping with charity events.
