Your Inverness Hogmanay evening begins: champagne and canapes

Arrive at Ness Walk Hotel to chilled champagne served in crystal flutes as our welcome to your Hogmanay celebrations. Decadent canapés then follow, with smoked salmon on Scottish oatcakes, Highland venison bites, and seasonal vegetarian options, all showcasing local ingredients.

You’ll then be seated in your chosen dining room. First, there’s Torrish, providing an intimate atmosphere with contemporary Scottish design and warm lighting. Then, the Riverbank Room offers floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking our courtyard, where fairy lights twinkle against stone walls and mature trees. Three courses celebrating Highland produce

The Hogmanay menu at Ness Walk Hotel showcases the finest ingredients from the Scottish Highlands. Executive chefs source locally wherever possible, bringing you game from Highland estates, seafood from Scottish waters, and vegetables from trusted regional suppliers. Importantly, the three-course format gives you complete freedom to build your perfect meal from multiple options.

Winter game also features prominently on the menu. Therefore, you can expect venison, pheasant, or grouse, all prepared to highlight natural flavours. Additionally, fresh Scottish seafood brings coastal character to the starter selections. Meanwhile, desserts lean toward indulgent finishes appropriate for the occasion. Unlike restrictive set menus at some Hogmanay events in Inverness, you’ll choose freely across all courses at Ness Walk Hotel.

We also accommodate dietary requirements with advance notice. Consequently, vegetarian, vegan, and gluten-free options receive the same culinary attention as standard dishes. Simply inform our team when you book so our kitchen can plan accordingly.

Getting to Ness Walk Hotel on 31st December

Ness Walk Hotel sits centrally in Inverness beside the River Ness on Bught Lane. Most city centre locations are within easy walking distance. Directions are straightforward whether you’re driving or taking a taxi. However, taxis get extremely busy around midnight, so it’s worth planning ahead.

Parking becomes challenging during Hogmanay as streets close for festivities. Indeed, public car parks fill early on 31st December. Fortunately, guests staying overnight at Ness Walk Hotel enjoy on-site parking, removing this concern completely.

Dining room atmosphere and presentation

Tables are dressed elegantly for Hogmanay at Ness Walk Hotel. Expect crisp linens, quality glassware, and seasonal touches appropriate for Scotland’s biggest celebration. Lighting creates warmth without being too dim, while background music remains subtle and never overwhelms conversation.

Both Torrish and the Riverbank Room maintain an intimate scale even on busy evenings. Consequently, you’re not dining in vast ballrooms with hundreds of other guests. Instead, the smaller rooms create a genuine sense of occasion while preserving the personal service Ness Walk Hotel delivers year-round.

Extend your stay: overnight at Ness Walk Hotel

Why rush home on 1st January when you could wake overlooking the River Ness? Book a room at Ness Walk Hotel to extend your Hogmanay into a proper Highland break, and one of the top Hogmanay breaks in Inverness. You can sleep late after the celebrations, then enjoy a leisurely breakfast in our restaurant before exploring Inverness at a gentle pace.

Accommodation is booked separately from dinner but provides significant convenience. Firstly, there’s no worrying about taxis when thousands want rides at midnight. Secondly, you won’t have driving concerns after enjoying wine and whisky. Simply head upstairs to your room whenever you’re ready.

We’ve created a three-day Hogmanay itinerary with activity suggestions for extended stays. River Ness walks clear heads on crisp January mornings. Meanwhile, Inverness attractions open quietly on New Year’s Day for peaceful sightseeing. Return to Ness Walk Hotel each evening for comfort and excellent dining throughout your break.

FAQs: Inverness Hogmanay 2026

What time should we arrive for Hogmanay dinner?

Reservations are staggered throughout the evening to accommodate different preferences. When you book, you’ll select your preferred arrival time. Most guests arrive between 7pm and 8pm to allow leisurely dining before midnight. Earlier arrivals give you more time to relax into the evening, while later bookings suit those who want to dine closer to midnight celebrations.

Can we leave after dinner to join street celebrations?

Absolutely. Many guests finish their meal then head into the city centre for midnight fireworks and street parties, which are just a few minutes’ walk away. You’re welcome to return to Ness Walk Hotel afterwards for drinks in our bar or terrace if you prefer somewhere quieter after the bells. There’s no obligation to stay for the full evening.

Is the £95 price per person or per couple?

The £95 is per person and includes your champagne welcome drink, canapes, and three-course meal. Additional drinks throughout the evening are charged separately. Wine, cocktails, and whiskies are available to order from our full list, and these appear on a separate bill at the end of your evening.

Do you accommodate children for Hogmanay dinner?

Yes, children are welcome though the evening is designed primarily for adults. The menu is sophisticated rather than child-focused, but our kitchen can adapt dishes for younger palates with advance notice. Most families with children tend to book earlier sittings and often head home before midnight rather than staying for late celebrations.

What happens if we book accommodation as well?

Accommodation is booked separately from the dinner reservation and gives you the flexibility to enjoy the full evening without worrying about transport. You can take your time over dinner, perhaps join street celebrations at midnight, then return to your room whenever you’re ready. Breakfast the next morning is included with overnight stays and served until late on New Year’s Day.

Can we request a specific dining room?

Yes, you can request either Torrish or the Riverbank Room when booking. We’ll do our best to accommodate your preference, though it depends on availability and party size. The Riverbank Room overlooks the courtyard with fairy lights, while Torrish offers a more intimate contemporary setting. Both provide excellent Hogmanay atmosphere.

What's the cancellation policy for Hogmanay bookings?

Full prepayment is taken four weeks before 31st December and is non-refundable after that point. Before the prepayment date, standard cancellation terms apply. Hogmanay is our busiest evening of the year, so we need these terms to manage bookings fairly. If you have concerns about potential cancellation, it’s worth discussing this when you make your reservation.
