Great Glen Way
During your stay with us at Ness Walk Hotel in Inverness, you’re within walking distance of the start (or end) point to the Great Glen Way. This spectacular long-distance walking and cycling route stretches for 79 miles (127 km) across the heart of the Scottish Highlands, linking Inverness on the east coast with Fort William in the west. Following the natural fault line of the Great Glen, the trail takes in dramatic scenery, tranquil lochs and historic sites. Tackling the full route takes up to a week, but you can choose to walk as much or as little of it as you like.
Walking or cycling the Great Glen Way
There are six sections of the Great Glen Way, stretching 79 miles in total. You can access full walking directions here from Fort William to Inverness, which is a week-long challenge that many walkers and cyclists choose to partake in. However, you can complete a smaller section, the choice is yours! The closest section to our hotel, from Drumnadrochit to Inverness takes around a day to walk and is a fantastic way to explore our scenic area. Or you can take it the other way from Inverness to Drumndrochit.
The Great Glen Canoe Trail
Walking and cycling are not the only ways to experience this beautiful route. The Great Glen Canoe Trail is an alternative way along the water. It passes through a series of waterways, including the famous Loch Ness and Caledonian Canal. You can travel by canoe or kayak, enjoying breathtaking views, historic sites like Urquhart Castle, and abundant wildlife. Again, you don’t have to sail the entire route. You could just hire a boat for the day and explore a smaller area. You can find more information on the Great Glen Canoe Trail here.
