Ness Walk

Loch Ness – Itinerary One

North Loch Ness Car Tour

This is a one-day self-guided car tour, which highlights some of the top places to visit on the northern shores of Loch Ness, whilst taking in the glorious scenery. It takes around two hours of driving time to loop around the whole of the loch, starting and finishing in Inverness.

Morning

Breakfast – For guests staying at Ness Walk Hotel in Inverness, breakfast is served in Torrish Restaurant. The perfect way to set you up for the day.

Stop 1 – Our first stop on this north Loch Ness itinerary, is a luxury shopping experience at An Talla café and retail destination. The ideal opportunity to pick up some beautiful souvenirs from your Scottish holiday. This is a 10-minute drive from the hotel, via the A82.

Stop 2 – Next, a stunning cruise with Loch Ness by Jacobite Cruises. Choose your cruise, departing from either Dochgarroch or Clansman Harbour and book in advance. From An Talla, Dochgarroch is just a 5-minute drive and it is a further 10 minutes on to Clansman Harbour. Cruise booking and departure point information.

Afternoon

Lunch – After your cruise, continue along the A82 to the village of Drumnadrochit. Known as the home of Nessie. Great places to eat in Drumnadrochit include Cafe Eighty2, Fiddler’s and Ness Deli.

Stop 3 – As you leave Drumnadrochit, look out for the picturesque ruins of Urquhart Castle. Then continuing down the shore, Invermoriston is an excellent stop for a picturesque walk to the Invermoriston Falls and its two bridges. There is parking in the village and you can walk straight from here.

Stop 4 – The final stop is the beautiful town of Fort Augustus, which lies at the bottom of Loch Ness and on the Caledonian Canal. A great place for walks, or just to sit and watch the boats going through the locks. You can find out more about the canal at the Caledonian Canal Centre.

Evening

Dinner – Head back to Inverness, this time along the south side of the loch, via the B862, for a change of scenery. Back at the hotel, you can enjoy fine dining in Torrish Restaurant or something lighter in our Bar.

Stop 5 – Finally, if you still have the energy, an evening stroll along the river bank to the Ness Islands is a beautiful way to end the day.
