Experience Loch Ness by boat
They say the best way to understand the sheer size and scale of Loch Ness is by boat, and we tend to agree. After all, standing in the middle of the loch and taking in the view is an experience not to be missed when you visit Loch Ness.
That’s why we’ve teamed up with Loch Ness by Jacobite for our Spring on the Loch offer, so you can spend time on the water. On a two-hour Contemplation tour, you’ll first follow in the footsteps of Queen Victoria. From there, you’ll travel along Thomas Telford’s Caledonian Canal and onto the waters of Loch Ness.
Along the way, take in the sights, sounds, and stories of the Great Glen, Urquhart Castle, and more. You might even catch a watery glimpse of you-know-who! Either way, this Jacobite Loch Ness cruise is a fantastic adventure. Better still, it’s included in the price of your stay at the 5-star Ness Walk Hotel, Inverness.
Spring into 5-star luxury
Set in a peaceful spot on the banks of the River Ness, Ness Walk Hotel is the perfect base for a spring break in Inverness. As the city starts to bloom, you can enjoy riverside walks, stroll into the city centre, or venture further into the Scottish Highlands. In short, it’s spring in Scotland at its best in the most luxurious surroundings.
And here at the hotel, you’ll enjoy 5-star treatment from the moment you arrive. First, our concierge will greet you and arrange your parking, while we take your luggage to your room. Then, you can relax in the lounge with a chilled glass of champagne as we handle the check-in details. Together, our luxury accommodation, sumptuous dining, and excellent facilities ensure an unforgettable spring break in the Highlands.

Why Scotland in the spring is worth the trip
Spring in Scotland has a lot going for it. The days lengthen quickly through March, so every week of the month brings more daylight for exploring. Meanwhile, the summer crowds haven’t arrived yet. That means quieter roads, easier restaurant bookings and more room to breathe at the Highlands’ best-known sights.
The landscape changes fast at this time of year, too. Snow often lingers on the higher hills while the glens turn green, and the riverbanks in Inverness begin to fill with colour. For anyone searching for places to visit in spring, the Highlands offer drama, space and a real sense of the season turning. It’s why Loch Ness sits among the best places to visit in spring, particularly if you’d rather enjoy the scenery without the queues.
Getting from Inverness to Loch Ness
One of the great advantages of staying at Ness Walk is how close you are to the loch. The journey from Inverness to Loch Ness is a short one, since the loch sits just south-west of the city. In fact, the River Ness flows out of Loch Ness and runs right past the hotel on its way to the sea.
So, there’s no better base if you want to visit Loch Ness, Scotland’s most famous stretch of water. Our concierge team can advise on Jacobite departure points and timings, which makes planning your day simple. And if you’re driving, the A82 follows the loch’s north-western shore towards Drumnadrochit and Urquhart Castle, with views across the water for much of the way.
What to visit in Inverness in spring
If you’re wondering what to visit in Inverness around your cruise, plenty sits within walking distance of the hotel. For example, the Ness Islands lie just upstream, linked by Victorian footbridges and wooded paths that come to life in spring. It’s an easy, peaceful walk straight from our door.
For more places to visit, Inverness has the Inverness Castle Experience, which tells the story of the Highlands from above the river. The Victorian Market is worth a browse, and Leakey’s, one of Scotland’s largest second-hand bookshops, is ideal for a rainy afternoon. Further afield, Culloden Battlefield is a short drive east of the city and makes a moving half-day trip.
Making the most of a midweek spring break
This offer runs Sunday to Thursday, which suits a midweek escape well. Attractions are quieter, the city moves at an easier pace, and early risers often have the riverside paths almost to themselves.
We’d suggest arriving early to settle into the lounge with your champagne before check-in. After that, take a stroll along the river before dinner in Torrish. When visiting Loch Ness, Scotland’s spring weather can change quickly, so pack a warm layer for your time on the water. And if one night doesn’t feel like enough, ask our team about extending your stay to see more of the Highlands.
