Breakfast – After spending the night in five-star accommodation at Ness Walk Hotel, begin with a hearty Scottish breakfast in Torrish Restaurant.

Stop 1 – From the hotel, drive to Culloden Battlefield via the B9006. This 20-minute drive will take you to the historic site of the 1746 Battle of Culloden. Stand on the infamous battleground and experience a 360-degree immersive battle scene in the Visitor Centre. Parking and ticket information.

Stop 2 – Next stop is the dramatic Clava Cairns, a pre-historic burial site, located close by. At around 4,000 years old, this is one of the most ancient sites in Scotland. It is free to visit and open all year round. Directions and parking.

Stop 3 – Don’t miss the spectacular Culloden Viaduct while you’re in the area. An amazing railway bridge with 29 arches, built in 1898 and still used today.

LunchThe Culloden Moor Inn is a great place to stop for lunch, before your next stop.

Stop 4 – Then, get back on the road and head to Fort George via the B9039. This huge military fort is about a 25-minute drive away. Built in the aftermath of the Battle of Culloden, this is a fascinating place to explore. Tickets include entry to the Highlanders’ Museum, which displays a large collection of military artefacts. Parking and ticket information.

Dinner – Head back to the city centre in the evening, where you can enjoy a fine dining experience at Ness Walk.

Stop 5 – If you’re looking for a bit of live music after dinner and perhaps a ceilidh, Hootenanay’s is just a 10-minute walk from the hotel. A popular venue for traditional Scottish music with a lively atmosphere.
